Baby survives after tree crashes on truck

ELLENWOOD, Ga. -

A 5-month-old boy survived after a tree fell on the truck that he was riding.

Teresa Bowers, her boyfriend Marcus Osborne and their son Joshua, were headed west on River Road when a tree crashed on their truck in Ellenwood on Sunday afternoon.

"The tree just came down from nowhere. In just five seconds – bam! And we tried to get out," Bowers said.

The three escaped their crushed pickup truck by climbing through broken windows. Paramedics took Joshua to the hospital, where doctors removed glass from his hair and body.

The 1985 Dodge Ram was towed to Cymill Motors, where it's mangled from front to back.

"The whole tail came off of the back," Osborne said.

Osborne only had liability insurance, and not comprehensive, so the insurance company is not going to cover the damage.  The tow truck company was a bit more generous and is waiving its charges.

Osborne is now trying to determine who is responsible for the tree -- the county or the property owner. The root ball is a few feet from River Road. It's on property which appears to belong to a foreclosed church.

Legal questions aside, the family said they are happy to be alive.
