Recycle used electronics, clothes, other products on Earth Day - New York News

Recycle on Earth Day in Chicago - you may even get free stuff!

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Monday is Earth Day, and what better way to mark the occasion than to recycle your used products?

Not many people know how to recycle their electronics properly, so ABT Electronics brought their E-Waste Recycling Drive to the Loop.

Their big white truck is parked on the corner of Michigan and Lake, ready to receive your used appliances – and even professionally wipe personal information from your computers.

Stop by downtown this Earth Day, or at their convenient locations in the Chicagoland area, and get a free tote or Earth Day t-shirt today!

Mayor Rahm Emanuel will also announce the expansion of the Blue Cart Recycling Program on Monday.

The city received a grant to purchase 50,000 blue carts over the next five years. The increase is part of a partnership with Coca-Cola and "Keep America Beautiful."

H&M will take your used clothes off your hands and give you a deal in return, on Earth Day and any other day. You can just drop them off at any location and receive 15% off a single item.

A recycling company called I-collect then sorts the clothes. H&M will resell what's good and turn what isn't wearable into new products like cleaning clothes and car insulation.

There are some freebies being offered in honor of Earth Day.

Best Buy will recycle just about any electronics, including TVs, DVD players, computer monitors and cell phones for free.

Caribou Coffee will give you a free cup of coffee if you bring in a reusable mug.

If you recycle five plastic grocery bags at the Disney store, you'll get a free reusable tote bag with a "Brave" or "Cars" theme.

Origins is offering a free Earth Day tote with orders over $55 and free recycling of empty cosmetic containers.

At The Pottery Barn - you'll pick up a free packet of seeds for kids to plant at home.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
