DETROIT (WJBK) -

A Detroit resident turned to the Problem Solvers after he said police fail to show up following a car crash on his property.

It happened at a home on the city's east side around 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening.  Gregory Andrews said he was inside when he heard "a crash and a boom, and I was right at the stove, and I [saw] a car go right by my side door."

That car slammed into Andrews' fence.

"I asked him was he all right, and I called 911," Andrews explained.  "The operator told she would dispatch a squad car out.  We waited about 20 minutes, so I called again."

However, we're told police never showed up, and the driver wasn't interested in doing the right thing.

"Hoped that fence and was gone," Andrews said.

Fox 2 did some digging, and it turns out the driver was apparently 19-year-old Justin Harper, a kid with a lengthy rap sheet.  He has been convicted of drug possession, car theft and underage drinking, and he doesn't have a valid license.

Detroit Police told Fox 2 non-injury accidents are not considered priority runs, and depending on the load, it can take hours for an officer to show.

Fox 2 cameras were rolling when an officer did come to the scene on Friday about 19 hours after Andrews said the accident occurred.

Meanwhile, Andrews said he has lost his faith in a system he should be able to trust.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
