Please consider alternate routes as some of the standing water can be dangerous.

"Driving into flooded portions of roads can bedangerous and even deadly, as flood waters can quickly carry your vehicleaway," said Illinois Transportation Secretary Ann L. Schneider. "Our crews areworking diligently to ensure flooded roads are closed off to the motoringpublic and will continue to monitor the conditions to ensure safety acrossIllinois throughout the duration of this storm."

Flooding-related driving tips:

  • Do not drive through floodedareas
  • If a road covered by waterseems shallow enough to cross, do not attempt to do so
  • If your car stalls, do notattempt to push it out; seek higher ground

GovernorPat Quinn this morning activated the State Incident Response Center (SIRC) inSpringfield to assess flooding and severe weather in several areas of the stateand expedite assistance that may be needed by local public safety officials toprotect citizens. The SIRC will remain open as long as needed to support localresponders.

If an iced coffee from Dunkin' Donuts is part of your afternoon routine, expect a nudge to buy a cookie or doughnut you didn't plan on. Dunkin' Brands CEO Nigel Travis said in a phone interview Thursday that the company is pushing to get its cashiers to "upsell" to afternoon customers. It's part of an effort to increase sales after stores have emptied out after the morning rush.
