WILMINGTON, Del. -

Three malnourished dogs rescued from a Wilmington, Delaware home will need extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation before they can be adopted, Delaware SPCA officials said.

After being rescued, SPCA officials named the dogs Fleetwood, Mac and Stevie, after members of the band "Fleetwood Mac."

The dogs were rescued from the basement of a home on Brown Street. SPCA officials say the dogs were found cramped inside cages in their own feces. The cages were stacked on top of each other and the windows were covered, the SPCA said.

The dogs are considered to be mixed-breeds, with the young male in the worst shape.

"We were amazed that he still was in good spirits and wagging his tail, despite the horrible way he has been treated," SPCA volunteer Sherry Stewart said in a story posted on the Delaware SPCA website. Stewart helped care for the dogs and named them.

The SPCA says the dogs will need weeks of recovery before they can be placed in permanent homes.

You've got a few more weeks to enjoy SummerStage, New York's annual performing arts showcase that's 28 years running. But it's not just music: there is dance, comedy, theater, you name it. There are several shows weekly at 14 different parks throughout the five boroughs. A recent show at Rumsey Playfield in Central Park paid tribute to Pete Seeger. Most of the shows are free and are funded by tickets purchased for the some of the bigger acts.
