1-year-old crushed by door at Atlanta apartment complex

ATLANTA -

A terrible accident claimed the life of a 1-year-old southwest Atlanta girl.  She was crushed by a door while playing outside with her grandmother.

Talasia Hamm was an energetic little girl whose mom says stayed on the move.  Her mother is now trying to understand the strange and tragic accident that claimed the young child's life.

"It doesn't seem real," said her mother, Shantarian Hamm.  "It doesn't.  I feel like I'm in a horrible nightmare and it's long, and I want to wake up.  Every second I think I'm going to wake up."

A memorial next to the apartment where Talasia was fatally injured is growing.  Family members say her grandmother was watching her when a burglar bar door fell and crushed her in front of a vacant apartment.

FOX 5 reached out to the city code enforcement office to request information on whether the property owner at the complex on Macon Drive has been cited before.  As of Wednesday night, we were still waiting for a response.

Talasia's family says they are working to set up a fund to cover the costs of her funeral.

The future is here when it comes to vehicles. The auto industry has packed nearly 1,000 automobiles into the Jacob Javits Center on Manhattan's West Side for the 2014 NY Auto Show.   Among the 'must-sees' is a hydrogen-powered vehicle and a prototype with cameras that allow you to see the ground underneath as you drive over it.
