DETROIT (WJBK) -

In the wake of the deadly attack in Boston, the running community is coming together and encouraging people to continue to live life to the fullest.

This Saturday there is a fundraiser scheduled on Belle Isle.  It is called "Run with the Cops Not from Them," and it benefits the For a Day Foundation.  The group provides money for children fighting cancer or battling serious illness.

After the bombings, one of the organizers wrote to all the registered runners encouraging them to still come out to Belle Isle on Saturday.

"I'm a 17 year veteran with the Detroit Police Department, and during that tenure you see a lot of things.  I've lost some friends along the way, and what I've learned in my experiences with that is that there is so much more good than there is evil in the world," said Sergeant Jeremy James.

The For a Day Foundation does a lot of good things for sick kids.  There will be heightened security on Belle Isle for the run, and there is still time to register.
