3 people injured in I-20 wreck

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A single car accident on Interstate 20 in Newton County left three people hurt on Wednesday.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says the accident happened in the westbound lanes east of State Road 142 sometime around 10:30 a.m., blocking all lanes for a short time.

According to authorities, a Toyota Scion driven by 23-year-old Zahra Omeri of Augusta was headed west on I-20 when Omeri lost control and ran off the road on the left side.  Omeri then crossed over two lanes of traffic and hit an embankment on the right shoulder of the road.

Authorities say one passenger in the Toyota, 27-year-old Shayesta Quasimi of Augusta, was ejected and airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center.  Omeri and another passenger were transported by ambulance to area hospitals.

The lanes were reopened to traffic shortly after noon.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
