No Specific Threat, But Heightened Security In Center City

In wake of the explosions at the Boston Marathon Monday, Philadelphia officials say there is a heightened level of security in Center City.

Mayor Nutter, in an afternoon news conference, said the city is at a heightened level of security, but that there was no immediate threat.

Two explosions were reported during the Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring more than 100. A motive for the attack is not yet clear and authorities have not released any information regarding who carried out the attack.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, their families and the City of Boston," Nutter said during the news conference.

The city says security was boosted across major arteries and landmarks, including the National Constitution Center and the National Museum of American Jewish History.

Security has also increased along SEPTA lines.

FOX 29's Dave Kinchen reports security teams are also taking another look at safety plans for the upcoming Broad Street Run.

The city says it expects the run to go on as planned. Additional police officers, including officers in plain clothes, will be available for the race, which is expected to draw nearly 40,000 runners and thousands of spectators.

Mayor Nutter says his office has not received any direct concerns from people planning to attend the race.

The mayor recommended that Philadelphia residents or those visiting the city notify police if they see anything suspicious.
