PHOENIX (AP) -- A suspect is in custody in connection with a drive-by shooting in northwest Phoenix that killed two teenagers, one of whom that was celebrating his birthday.

Phoenix police announced Monday evening that 22-year-old Carlos Rodriguez-Espinoza is being held on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder.

He's also facing charges of endangerment, drive-by shooting and being a prohibited firearm possessor.

Police say 18-year-old Jason Jonathan Acosta-Ramos and 16-year-old Elliseo O. Cantu died as a result of the shooting that erupted around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The shooting occurred as the party to celebrate Acosta-Ramos' birthday was breaking up.
