Mark Geragos On Scott Peterson: 'I Think He's Innocent'

PHILADELPHIA -

It's been almost four years since Michael Jackson died, but some of the legal battles are just starting.

The singer's family is suing AEG, saying the concert promoter contributed to his death by pushing him to work too hard.

But the details of the lawsuit are getting more dramatic.

AEG is firing back by saying there are a lot of things Jackson's family isn't being truthful about, like his drug use and the true identities of his kids parents.

The company says Jackson's youngest child, Blanket, is his only biological child.

Famed criminal defense attorney once represented Michael Jackson, and he also used to live locally in Haverford.

Geragos has a new book out called "Mistrial: An Inside Look at How the Criminal Justice System Works and Sometimes Doesn't."

He joined us Monday morning to talk about Jackson and other celebrity cases, including those of Chris Brown, O.J. Simpson, and Scott Peterson, who was convicted of murdering his wife, Laci, and their unborn son.

Peterson is on death row, but Geragos apparently doesn't believe he deserves to be there.

Asked point-blank by "Good Day's" Mike Jerrick if Peterson killed his wife, this was Geragos' response:

"OK, this is where, in California, we have a thing called 51-50, where if you think somebody's a danger to themselves or others, you put them under a psychiatric hold. I know when I answer this question you'll want to do the Pennsylvania equivalent: I think he's innocent."

To which, Jerrick followed up, "He just happened to go fishing where his wife's body washed up?"

Geragos answer, "If he had not, he never would have been convicted. The thing you have to remember – and I sat there for a year during that case – they had searched that bay for over four-and-a-half months. They had brought in SONAR from the Navy. The bay, itself, recedes down to about a one-foot depth."
