Central Park 5

Posted: Updated:

The Central Park jogger case which involved the rape of a jogger in Central Park in 1989 is the subject of a new documentary by Ken Burns and his daughter, Sarah Burns.

The five men convicted for the crime later had their convictions tossed.

We sat down with the father-daughter duo to discuss the film which debuts Tuesday night on PBS at 9 p.m.

A growing chorus of lawmakers is asking New York City to settle with the five men whose convictions were overturned in the notorious case.

The five black and Hispanic men were convicted as teenagers in 1990 of raping and beating a white woman jogging in the park. They served six to 13 years in prison before a judge threw out their convictions because of new evidence linking someone else to the crime.

In 2003, they sued police and prosecutors for $250 million. The case has gone nowhere. But the attention — and the pressure on the city — could increase in the coming weeks with the broadcast of the Burns film.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
