ATLANTA -

A former Georgia State Patrol trooper accused of causing a deadly crash while on the job has pleaded guilty to two out of three charges. The New Year's Eve 2011 crash on Capitol Avenue killed the wife of Atlanta Braves head trainer Jeff Porter.

Accompanied by his attorney, Don Crozier pled guilty to vehicular homicide and reckless driving.  Porter was in court as Crozier entered his plea on the two counts. He's contesting a third charge, violation of oath by a public officer.

On December 31, 2011, his patrol car struck an SUV driven by Porter and his wife, Cathy, was killed. He was rushing to assist in chasing a motorcyclist when the crash occurred, and he was later fired.

Jeff Porter was in the courtroom on Monday.

Jury selection began for Crozier's trial on the charge of violation of oath by a public officer.

Vehicular homicide carries a maximum 15-year sentence, while the violation of oath count has a maximum of 5 years.

Crozier had been on patrol for 10 years. He was fired after the crash.
