Senate Wading Deeper Into Gun Control Debate

Posted: Updated:

The fight over gun control is taking center stage in the nation's capital.

This week, the Senate will debate a bipartisan bill aimed at curbing gun violence.

The bill greatly expands background checks for people buying guns.

It also deals with gun trafficking and school security.

Pennsylvania's own Sen. Pat Toomey says these are changes that everybody should be able to support.

"Nothing guarantees that a committed criminal isn't going to find a way to get a gun, but we can make it more difficult."

Most Republicans, however, are putting up a fight, insisting that any gun control measure is an attack on the Constitution's Second Amendment right to bear arms.

At the same time today key measures of New York's tough new gun law begin, including new limits on the number of bullets allowed in clips.

New York's law along with other states' measures have the NRA and other guns rights organizations vowing an extended battle to overturn them.

Fox's Craig Boswell has more in this video report from Washington.
