Wawa Employee Arrested As Part of Credit Card Skimming Ring

Posted: Updated:

Customers at a Burlington Township WaWa feeling a different type of pain at the pump.

While they  gassed up at the WaWa on 1814 Salem Road, police say one of the gas station attendants was filling up a pocket-sized skimming device with their credit card information.

"You wouldn't even know if they had it on them. They swipe the card through the device then swipe your card into the  gas pump," explained Burlington Township Detective Marc Carnivale.

Police say 32-year-old Christopher Williams worked as an attendant at the gas station stealing information. After he got it they say he turned it over to three other accomplices. One of them, Albert Long Jr.,  is still on the run.

Authorities tell us at least 25-victims have been targeted  since March. No word yet on exactly how much the suspected crooks ran up in fraudulent charges. Investigators say the credit card information was  used at stores like Target and Walmart.

Wawa issued a statement saying, "Wawa does not tolerate illegal activity in our stores.

Wawa's security team took immediate action and quickly  identified the individual responsible for this incident." He is no longer employed by Wawa.

Investigators believe the theft is contained to just  customers at the Wawa.
