Erratic weather in store for the weekend

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The joke about Chicago weather, they say, is "wait a minute and it'll change."

For the most part, that adage will ring true this weekend, according to Andrew Krein, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Klein said this weekend's weather could alternate from light snow showers Friday night, to drizzle Saturday, rounded out by clear skies and temperatures in the 60s Sunday.

"This time of year you can see some … typical winter weather conditions, but you can also see some nicer weather," Krein said. " The joke is, ‘wait a minute, it'll change.' But it is kind of true, for early spring especially."

On Friday scattered rains showers could give way to a light, overnight dusting of snow, according to the weather service. Temperatures are projected to range from lows in the upper 30s to a high around 45.

Saturday should be mostly dry, but it will likely be a little chilly, with temps in 40s, Krein said.

Showers are expected Sunday morning, but by midday southerly winds are expected to bring more spring-like temps in the 60s, Klein said.

However, he cautioned, "We're no out of the woods yet."

By Monday a shift in the weather could mean more rain and thunderstorms, he said.
