On Thursday's Chat Room, Sun-Times Splash Editor Susanna Negovan and lifestyle consultant Rochelle Trotter discussed Michelle Obama's moving speech on the escalating violence in Chicago, and how the youth can be empowered to protect and change their lives.

CPS chief Barbara Byrd-Bennett joined the Chat Room to speak on a joint effort that the district, principals, police and parents will have to organize for each school to get Chicago kids to school safely.

Award-winning journalist Mark Konkol has covered Chicago crime for years. He joined the Chat Room to discuss the "no-snitch" rule and urges more people to speak up and help stop crime in their neighborhoods.
