TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities are trying to identify the body of a woman found in a desert area just south of the Foothills Mall in Tucson.

Pima County Sheriff's officials say a passer-by reported finding what appeared to be a dead person in the desert about 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say the body had been at that location "for an extended period of time."

Homicide detectives are investigating what is being called a suspicious death.

Sheriff's officials say the county Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death.
