Baby pulled from car after it crashes into canal

Posted: Updated:
SURPRISE, Ariz. -

A driver lost control of his car and went crashing into a canal Wednesday night -- and firefighters had to rescue a baby from the vehicle.

The driver apparently overcorrected while traveling on a dirt road in the area of Cactus and Citrus Roads, and landed upside down in the wet canal.

Four people were in the Dodge Neon, two adults and two children, one of them a 7-month-old. They suffered minor injuries, and the mom and baby went to the hospital for treatment. Everyone is expected to be OK.

This happened in a remote area of Surprise, and there are no homes nearby. MCSO Supervisor Chris Jefferys says he was told they were looking for empty shotgun shell cases.

Investigators believe the driver may have been traveling too fast.
