HIGHLAND PARK, Mich. (WJBK) -

WWJ Radio reported Highland Park Mayor DeAndre Windom was driving a dark blue police Cadillac with red and blue emergency lights in the grill the night of March 30.  He allegedly activated them to breeze through a red light at the intersection of Woodward and Ferris.

After Highland Park Police pulled him over, the mayor allegedly said to the officer, "Do you know who I am?  I'm the mayor of Highland Park."

He was reportedly aggressive and uncooperative, and it is alleged he even chest bumped the officer.

The mayor was reportedly rude, cursed at the officer that pulled him over and even fired him and his partner on the spot.

However, City Attorney Todd Perkins told Fox 2 the officers are still on the job.

"One thing I do want to stress is that these are officers that are still in our employee.  There's been nothing adverse to their employment by the city or by the administration," he said.

What about the mayor being behind-the-wheel of that Highland Park police car and allegedly using the lights?

"I found no exception for a mayor to have emergency lights on his car.  It's not the law.  In fact, if a mayor has those lights and uses them, he could go to jail for 90 days.  That's the law," said Fox 2 legal analyst Charlie Langton.

The city attorney told Fox 2 he has not talked to the officers involved or their attorneys, but he will investigate further.

"I will look at the information that is available, but I really wouldn't be making a comment as to that today," Perkins said.

The police chief wasn't available, and Windom declined comment.
