Casey Kasem Lists Holmby Hills Mansion For $42M

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Jeannie Kasem wanted to live like "Eloise at the Plaza."

"When people made it in TV and radio, they live in hotels," she says. "So when I got pregnant, I told my husband, ‘We'll raise our child at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.'"

Her husband, radio star Casey Kasem, didn't buy in.

"He told me, ‘We need a home with a yard,'" says Jeannie, an actress and businesswoman. "We walked onto this property, and we just knew it was magic."

The property she's speaking of is their 12,000 square-foot Holmby Hills estate, which they bought for $6.8 million in 1989.

The house is on the market and is currently listed for $42 million dollars.

Her realtor Stan Smith explains the price tag.

"This doesn't exist anywhere else," says Smith. "There's no place else where you can go and find flat land in Los Angeles. You're living in a park surrounded by a city. It's an escape. Holmby Hills is more exclusive than Bel Air, more exclusive than Beverly Hills. It's really a small area and all the estates are private."

Jeannie, who cultivated a French-style vegetable garden and designed many of the home's features, calls this home "shangri-la."

"We've had glorious times here," she says. "We've hosted fundraisers here, presidents have been here. We have endless memories and isn't that what life is all about?"
