Video shows police end high speed chase in Fayette County

Posted: Updated:
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. -

Deputies in Fayette County said they had no choice but to run a suspected car thief off the road during a high speed chase. No one was injured and the sheriff there had high praise for the officers from three departments who ended the chase.

The chase began in the small town of Senoia in Coweta County on Saturday morning when they say a man, identified as 25-year-old Joshua Robinson of Union City, stole a pickup truck.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb says law enforcement became concerned when Robinson rattled the old truck up to speeds more than 100 miles an hour. At one point, a four-wheeler was thrown from the back of the truck, Babb said.

Authorities tried to slow him down with stop sticks, which when driven over deflate the tires, but Robinson went off road to avoid them.

The decision was made to box in Robinson to decrease his speed and to hopefully end the case.  The speeds decreased from over 100 down to 65. The truck was surrounded by patrol cars, some paint was traded and then Robinson wiped out.

He was later taken into custody after a scuffle and has been charged with stealing the truck and the ATV as well as numerous traffic violations.

In addition, deputies charged Robinson with possession of narcotics. They say the chase could have been a lot more dangerous, but traffic was fortunately light at that hour on a Saturday morning.
