GBI targets child porn trade in operation

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Law enforcement agents fanned out across Georgia on Wednesday as part of an operation to combat child pornography.

Authorities said after an investigation that ran from January through March, 98 suspects were identified as distributing child porn over the internet. Warrants were executed in 37 counties in Georgia.

"Photographic images and videos of children being raped and sexually abused," said Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan.

According to authorities, 47 law enforcement agencies participated in Operation Guarding Innocence, and call it the "largest operation of its kind in Georgia." A command center coordinated the activities of the teams.

"We track the status of every warrant. They track the status of every arrest and know what the teams are doing," Keenan said.

Keenan says child pornography is a growing problem.

"The persons we're pursuing have large amounts of child pornography that they are possessing, they are trading, selling, distributing and we will track them down," Keenan said.

The Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force has been in existence for 11 years. As of Thursday, there were 77 search warrants completed and 46 arrests made in connection with the operation, according to the GBI.

The saying art is autobiographical takes on a whole new meaning when your canvas is a fully nude human body, as it is for artist Andy Golub. Andy along with 30 other artists and 45 Technicolor models paraded around several Manhattan hotspots over the weekend for NYC Body Painting day. Believe or not, this is completely legal in New York City.
