Girl Scouts donate cookies to help military families

Posted: Updated:
SURPRISE, Ariz. -

A valley Girl Scout troop is using their famous cookies to help a military organization on Wednesday.

Girl Scout Troop 4005 from Surprise will deliver 300 boxes of cookies to the United Service Organizations at Sky Harbor Airport.

The USO helps over 15,000 soldiers and their families as they pass through the airport each year.

Unfortunately, the military group is running short on supplies and is looking for donations of frozen food and canned sodas.

The girls found out about the shortage and wanted to help. As a non-profit group, they don't have the money to spend on items, but there's one thing they're never low on: cookies.

The troop is hoping to raise awareness for the USO and to increase donations for our military.

FOX 10's Kristy Siefkin reports.
