DETROIT (WJBK) -

Fire destroyed a medical office building in Detroit on Tuesday.  Gunshots were heard coming from the building minutes before it erupted in flames.  Two bodies have been recovered.

9:00 a.m. Tuesday, police received frantic calls for help at Park Medical Plaza.  A gunman identified as Myron Williams, the building's former maintenance man, stormed in demanding to see Sharita Williams, a mother of four and his on and off again mistress.

"He took two hostages along with her, but he let them go, and he kept her and took her into the basement," said Dr. Kim Nowlin.

"He had a couple of guns, and he was shooting at people," podiatrist Stuart Kirschenbaum explained.  "He set the building on fire.  The fire department, really they couldn't get in there because of the gunman."

So the building burned with spectacular flames shooting through the roof and heavy smoke billowing.  Doctors and patients watched in horror as the west side staple burned to the ground.

Sherita's mother said her daughter and Myron began dating almost two years ago, even though he had a wife and two kids.  She explained their relationship as turbulent, depicted by the couple's constant bickering on Twitter.  One of Williams' recent tweets read "so that the end."  It was sent just four days before Tuesday's events.

"He called this morning to say that he loved me," said cousin Alfred Thatcher.  "He was crying then."

Doctors Kim and Arthur Nowlin provided psychological services in the building.  They never saw the couple together, but said it is clear Williams snapped and likely plotted a murder-suicide.

"It was evidently building up, and today it took its toll on him.  He couldn't control it," said Dr. Kim Nowlin.

Meanwhile, the doctors we spoke with said they will rebuild.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.
