Dog spooks, goes missing from dog show

Posted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -

A valley woman is desperate to find her dog. She took the rare breed to a dog show over the weekend, where he ran away.

The dog disappeared Sunday night from a show held at Camelback Ranch Ballpark in Glendale.

There were roughly 1,000 dogs there. His owner thinks he was just overwhelmed.

Bart is a 1-year-old Chinese crested powder-puff dog, and his owner Nina Conan is worried sick about him.

"You hear those stories that it happens once in a while in a dog show, but you never imagine it can happen to your dog so it's just heartbreaking."

She holds Bart's uncle in her lap, and she says he knows something is wrong.

Bart disappeared at his first dog show. He wasn't entered in it, but she brought him to get him used to the atmosphere.

Nina says all the dogs were in outdoor pens, supervised. When Bart's handler opened the gate to take him out, he ran away.

He darted off toward 107th Avenue and Colter toward some nearby homes.

"He probably was really scared, I guess it was absolutely a new thing for him," says Nina.

Several people from the dog show began searching for Bart. They even went door to door talking to neighbors. Nina Conan was up all night.

"I'm only afraid that some wildlife got to him, like coyotes or big predator birds."

She's hoping someone will see his picture and help bring him home. She's gone to some of the local shelters to look for her dog. So far, nothing.

If you can help locate her dog, contact her at (480) 980-8488 or urusor@yahoo.com

More than half the population of New York City rides public transportation to work. No other metropolis in this country even approaches that percentage or the MTA's total number of riders. For that reason, New York likely ranks as the most energy-efficient city in the nation. But what would it take to make the city even more energy-efficient or even self-sufficient?
