Dusty day turns to rainy night

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -

After a dusty and windy day in the valley, some areas were drenched with rain. Rain fell pretty hard in downtown Phoenix and the wet weather brought down temperatures.

Earlier Monday, strong winds whipped up dust, making driving conditions extremely dangerous. You could barely see the planes coming in at Sky Harbor.

34 miles of Interstate 40 near Winslow were closed to traffic, but the stretch has since reopened. Down south on I-10 near Picacho Peak, at least four people were injured in a pileup when two semi-trucks jackknifed in the dust.

Also on I-10, but in the far west valley near Verrado Way, a truck carrying produce got picked up by the wind and tossed on its side. No one was hurt, but the crash forced DPS to temporarily close one of the eastbound lanes heading into Phoenix.

The winds hampered firefighting efforts in the west valley, north of Luke Air Force Base. Piles of wood chips and debris were burning.

If wind and dust weren't enough weather activity for you, parts of the valley were hit with a spring shower. And there's something else we're not used to seeing in April -- snow! Flagstaff was covered in a few inches of white stuff.

The whole thing was a bit unexpected.

FOX 10's Anita Roman talked to people who were caught in the storm.
