Hikers' 911 Call: Desperation And Anxiety

Posted: Updated:
Los Angeles, CA -

(FOX 11) Authorities released the 911 call from Nicolas Cendoya, the hiker who went missing with his friend Kyndall Jack on Easter in an Orange County's Cleveland National Forest.

Cendoya, who along with his friend was rescued days later, made the call Sunday night at 8:30 p.m. just before his phone died.

On the tape, you can clearly hear the anxiety and desperation.

Here are some excerpts:

Dispatcher: "You have to understand, I have no idea where you are"

Cendoya: "We're at the top (of the mountain). Can you send a helicopter? We have a fire"

Dispatcher: "You have a fire?"

Cendoya: "We have a lighter"

Dispatcher: "You said you're at the top of a mountain?"

Cendoya: "The very, very top."
