NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Entertainers Jay-Z and Beyoncé spent their fifth wedding anniversary sightseeing in Havana, Cuba. It raised a lot of eyebrows back in the U.S.

American citizens are banned from traveling to the island without a special visa.

It is not clear why the rapper and his wife were in Cuba late last week in what may have been a violation of the long-standing U.S. trade embargo.

Two Republican members of Congress want to know what type of license the couple obtained for the trip. In a letter to the U.S. Treasury Deptartment, Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart of southern Florida asked for the information on who approved the visit.

"The numerous reports that such high-profile American celebrities might be engaged in tourist activities in Cuba are concerning," Diaz-Balart said in a news release. "The Castro regime is one of the most oppressive and brutal dictatorships in the world. I am further disappointed that these celebrities have not arranged to meet with members of Cuba's brave pro-freedom opposition or its independent musicians."

However, a source said that the Treasury Department did in fact license the trip, according to the New York Post. Treasury officials have not publicly confirmed that.

Jay-Z and Beyoncé were seen dining at La Guarida restaurant and strolling the streets of Old Havana surrounded by body guards and a crowd of fans. Beyonce posed for pictures with school children.

They did not answer questions from reporters.

In the past, artists who have been questioned by the government have said they visited for cultural purposes.
