Hundreds locked out of free concert at Centennial Olympic Park

ATLANTA -

If you were one of the lucky to get in on free music at Centennial Park on Sunday, you jammed to the sounds of Sting. But, authorities locked hundreds of concertgoers outside the gates after the park reached capacity on Sunday evening.

It wasn't exactly how organizers envisioned it, but the crowd was fed up.

"Today, there's been people pushing gates over, and getting caught by police and all sorts of stuff. Never seen anything like it," said Phillip Fevella.

Organizers turned hundreds of people away after Centennial Olympic Park reached capacity for a series of free concerts.

"They've told us they're closing it down, not going to let anyone else in, told everybody go away," said Fevella.

Thousands flocked to see a-list performers like the Dave Matthews band and sting. But the crowd was so large, park officials closed the gates before the band even took the stage. But that didn't stop some people who had waited in line for hours.

While many enjoyed the sweet sounds of free music inside the gates, some were left outside.

"We've tried to get in. Had a few guys all jump at once, and just see who can make it. Whoever makes it, does, and whoever gets in trouble, gets in trouble," said a concertgoer.

While the concerts series ended Sunday, there is still a lot of events going on at Bracket Town Fan Fest which has taken over the Georgia World Congress Center through Monday evening. The event offer more than 300,000 square feet of family-friendly activities. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for children.

And all these events culminates with the championship game at 9 p.m. on Monday at the Georgia Dome. The Louisville Cardinals will meet the Michigan Wolverines on the hardwood to determine the 2013 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.

The biggest obstacle may be parking. Streets in the downtown area will be closed, placing parking spots at a premium.

Parking at most places will $20 if you can find it. Some spots were seen as high at $50. Organizers expect parking to be sold out every day by noon.

MARTA will have extra trains going. They say the usual train ride will be trimmed down to 10 minutes.

Several area restaurants are adopting teams and serving as fan headquarters. Here's the full list of the fan headquarters locations:

Every day, those who live and work in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn drive and bike and walk across their canal, growing a little more accustomed to but no less disgusted by its scent and appearance. Once the busiest canal in the United States, the Gowanus now bears the distinction as perhaps the most polluted body of water in the nation. No one knows exactly how polluted because few have summoned enough courage to dive into its murky depths to investigate.
