CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The State Street Bridge was reopened after a man threatening to jump into the Chicago River caused traffic to be closed and the Shamrock Shuffle to be rerouted Sunday morning.

Police were first called to the bridge at 350 N. State St. for a well-being check about 6:50 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

They encountered a man threatening to jump off the bridge, Estrada said.

The man was safely removed from the bridge about 8:30 a.m., Estrada said. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation and no charges will be filed.

Northbound traffic on the State Street Bridge was reopened at 8:40 p.m. after closing due to the incident, said OEMC spokeswoman Melissa Stratton.

The race route was changed from Grand Avenue to Wabash Avenue, then on to Wacker Drive to State Street, Estrada said. The race will then resume its normal route, Estrada said.

Columbus Drive, between Roosevelt Road and Monroe Street, will re-open at 3 p.m., Straton said. Balbo Drive, between Lake Shore Drive and Michigan Avenue, will re-open at 1 a.m.

Things are looking up for cute little Cami King. Not only is her cancer in remission, she also just got to meet Mickey, Minnie and Elmo in Times Square. But, if you can believe it, there's something else this 4-year-old is even more excited about: Times Square is going gold. The chairman of the Times Square Advertising Coalition announced the crossroads of the world is going to light up in gold to raise awareness for pediatric cancer research.
