ATLANTA -

Street vendors are no longer allowed to set up shop in front of Turner Field. An order from the mayor's office bans anyone without a city vending permit from selling on the sidewalks.

Larry Miller, who said that he has sold on the city sidewalk for more than 25 opening days, was ordered to shut down by officers on Monday.

"I didn't think they would come and shut us down but I had to try," Miller said.

Some fans said they'll miss the vendors.

"That is part of the experience of going to the ballpark," said Joe Niehaus.

A legal watchdog group is trying to assist the small business men and women who have been fighting with City Hall since the previous administration radically changed sidewalk vending.

"After a court victory last December that said public property vendors have the right to earn an honest living, the city has responded by throwing them all off the streets with the threat of fines, arrests and even jail time," said Robert Frommer, an attorney for the vendors.

Dave Bennett, a senior policy advisor to Mayor Kasim Reed, said vendors won't be allowed back on the city sidewalks until a new program is constructed.

Some vendors said they would move to private lots until a deal is reached.

Going off to college is an exciting time for the entire family, especially for the upcoming freshman. But with technology, parents can be in touch all the time. What's too much and what's just enough? Freshman move-in day seems to be harder on the parents than the students at Stony Brook University.
