South Shore trains suspended following freight train derailment

GARY, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A freight train derailment in Gary has resulted in all South Shore train service temporarily suspended, according to the Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District (NICTD).

A CN freight train derailed at Broadway in Gary, north of the South Shore tracks, according to NICTD Saturday morning. Hazmat crews have directed NICTD to suspend service until it has been determined it is safe for the commuter trains to resume.

South Shore tickets will be honored on Metra Electric District trains, according to Metra.
