CAMDEN, N.J. -

A Camden woman is on a mission to make sure the young victims of violence in the city are never forgotten.

Robin Merlin tells FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito her mission started when she attended a funeral at Harleigh Cemetery in Camden for a friend's child.

Merlin says she fell down on an unmarked grave. It's what happened next that she says changed her life.

When she fell, her son, Sherone, noticed she landed on what happened to be his best friend, Tarell Carney's grave.

The two were heartbroken when the cemetery groundskeeper informed them the grave was unmarked.

"I said, we've got to do something about that," Robin Merlin said.

Merlin organized a "Stop the Violence" block party last summer and asked people to donate whatever they could to buy Carney a headstone.

Bob Zucchi of New Jersey Granite and Marble says he was so touched that he delivered the headstone himself.

"Seeing young people and what happens to young people, it's something you never get used to," Zucchi said.

Sherone says he's thrilled that now his friend can rest in peace with dignity.

"I'm just happy, I can't even explain how happy I am to see my man. I'm happy for him," Sherone said.

The Merlins realize they have started something. The family says there are many young people with unmarked graves in Harleigh Cemetery and they don't plan to rest until each one is marked.
