Same-sex marriage advocates march at Ga. Capitol

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Gay marriage advocates marched on the Georgia state Capitol on Monday to show support for same-sex marriage.

The rally was one of several dozen across the country in the days leading up to the Supreme Court's consideration of the controversial case.

Nearly 200 similar events are planned across the country over the next two days as part of the "Light the Way to Justice" campaign.

Advocates hope that the High Court will overturn California's Proposition 8, which outlaws gay marriage.

The court's decision has the potential to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry across the U.S.

Opponents of same sex marriage also showing up at several of these rallies. Those who say legalizing it would go against the will of the people who voted to ban it -- as was the case in California.
