Suspect in hit-and-run a personal injury lawyer

There is new information about a woman accused of driving drunk and hitting and killing a naked woman lying in a roadway.

The suspect is 43-year-old Aimee Butel, a personal injury lawyer, a licensed physician, and a former Maricopa County medical examiner.

Just after midnight Saturday, police say she ran over a naked woman near 34th Street and Thomas. She stopped her Toyota Yaris a block away.

One of her passengers got out of the car and checked on the victim as a bystander performed CPR, according to police. When the passenger went back to the car, Butel allegedly said she was going to take everyone home and took off.

Witnesses gave police a description of her car, and officers pulled her over a short time later.

A breathalyzer test showed her blood alcohol level was .129 percent.

Butel faces charges of DUI and leaving the scene of a fatal collision.

She works at the Knapp and Roberts law firm. Butel's bio says she focuses on "catastrophic, life changing personal injury and wrongful death cases."

Police have not released the name of the woman who was killed. It's not clear why the victim had taken her clothes off and sat down in the road.
