Man Pleads Not Guilty To DUI In Strip Club Crash

Los Angeles, CA -

(CNS) - A Paramount man who was behind the wheel of a BMW that crashed into two men standing in front of a parked car outside a Los Angeles strip club, causing them to lose limbs, pleaded not guilty today to drunken driving charges.

Terrence Conrad Meeks, 40, is charged with one felony count each of driving under the influence causing injury and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol causing injury, along with allegations of great bodily injury and injury to more than one person.

He is due back in court April 9, when a date will be set for a preliminary hearing.

Meeks drove into the two men, who were pinned against a parked Mini-Cooper, after leaving the strip club at Olympic Boulevard and McGarry Street early March 10, according to police.

One of the men had both legs severed below the knee, according to Deputy District Attorney John Gilligan. The second man had to have his right leg amputated after it was crushed.

There was no evidence the crash was the result of a hate crime, according to prosecutors.

If convicted, he faces up to five years in state prison, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sal Wilson, who had both of his legs severed in the crash, attended the arraignment.

"I haven't been able to sleep at night since it happened," the 57-year-old Wilson told reporters outside the criminal courts building. "I wake up in sweat. I see his face. I see the car coming at me. I remember having my leg in my hand.

"... It's turned my life around. I don't have two feet. I don't have no legs. I mean, I do but there's going to have to be more surgery."
