Phoenix mother accused of abusing her young son

PHOENIX - Authorities say a Phoenix woman is in custody for allegedly abusing her 2-year-old son.

Phoenix police say 21-year-old Rickesha Jovani Burns is being held on suspicion of sexual conduct with a minor and child abuse.

Police officers were called to a residence about 8 p.m. Sunday and found Burns holding her son.

They say the child was crying and bleeding and was immediately transported to a Phoenix hospital.

Police say Burns told them her son had been playing with a 12-year-old boy at a park and he had done something to the child.

Doctors say the child had injuries around his rectal area and he needed surgery to remove a foreign object. According to court paperwork, the object appeared to be a type of vibrator or sex toy.

Police say they found no evidence that the child was assaulted at the park and Burns was arrested.

Court paperwork shows there were allegations of child abuse against Burns in 2011.

Burns denied the allegations and is being held without bond.
