CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Rob Komosa, an athlete critically injured during high-school football practice 13 years ago, passed away at his suburban home over the weekend.

The Daily Herald reports Komosa suffered breathing problems and couldn't be revived.

He suffered a life-changing injury during football practice at Rolling Meadows High School back in 1999. Komosa was 17 years old then.

The injury left him unable to walk, move his arms and legs, or breathe on his own.

He was awarded $12 million from the school district, and was able to move into a handicap-accessible home.
