PHOENIX -

Phoenix Police say a 3-year-old girl nearly drowned in a pool near 59th Avenue and Thomas on Saturday afternoon.

The little girl had been swimming with six other kids in a backyard pool. Police say all seven kids were wearing swim suits with life jackets while they were swimming.

According to officers, the family got out of the pool, the little girl's dad changed her out of her swim suit and then started changing himself.

As he was changing, police say the girl somehow made it back into the pool. When the dad was finished changing, he found the 3-year-old face down in the pool.

The little girl was taken to a hospital. Her condition hasn't been released.

"This is unfortunately just the beginning of what our season's like. We hope and pray the outcome is good, but it's not looking real promising right now," said Phoenix Fire Cpt. Tony Mure.

There was no fence around the pool.
