Man dead after SWAT standoff in Roswell

Posted: Updated:
ROSWELL, Ga. -

A man is dead after an exchange of gunfire with police and an overnight standoff late Friday night.

Officials identify the man as Michael J. Marselle, 45, of Roswell. Police say they were called to his house on Ridgefield Drive around 8:40 p.m. Friday after neighbors reported hearing gunfire.

Officers exchanged fire with the man before he retreated back inside his home. The North Fulton SWAT team was called to the scene and later made entry to the house to find Marselle dead inside.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office says Marselle died of apparent gunshot wounds to the chest and arm.

A spokesperson for the Roswell Police Departments says the incident started as a dispute between Marselle and his girlfriend. They say she was not hurt.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was asked to investigate the shooting.
