FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) -

The Ferndale High School community is mourning the loss of one of its former students.

Erika Minchey was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in January.  At only 38 years old, she lost her battle with the disease only two weeks and six days later.

Minchey was a loving wife and mother of four girls ages 15, 13, three and 18 months old.

"She was amazing.  She had beautiful dark hair and a bright, bright smile, and she was funny, and she was kind, and she was caring, and there are so many great qualities," said friend Megan Suzor.  "There's just so many amazing things.  She was a great mom.  She loved being a mom.  She was a great daughter and a great wife."

A fundraiser for the family will take place on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Luxury Lanes in Ferndale.

If you would like to make a donation to help the family, go to www.gofundme.com/SUPPORTFTC.
