ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WJBK) -

It's a place that is all about the beauty of creating and the rewarding journey of self-expression.  From pottery to fused glass, you discover it all at the Creative Arts Studio in Royal Oak.

The Creative Arts Studio is a do it yourself studio that offers numerous art activities.

"You can come in and do pottery painting, mosaics, glass fusing, beading all on a walk-in basis.  It's just a creative outlet for kids and adults of all ages," said General Manager Anne Nechal.

The main attraction at the Creative Arts Studio is pottery painting.

"The way it works is you're going to walk in, you're going to pick your pieces.  We have a studio fee for kids and adults.  It's going to cover your glazing, your firing, all your paints and everything," Nechal explained.  "You paint your piece in whatever creative fashion you want, and then we're going to fire them and glaze them.  So you leave them here for a week, and you pick them up completed and functional."

"Beading you can also do on a walk-in basis.  It's basic necklaces and bracelets.  You're picking out your beads, designing them in the order however you want, stringing them, and then we'll put the clasp on for you.  So it's a nice done in a day where you can come in and the piece actually goes home with you."

"Mosaics... they go home with you the same day.  You can walk in and do those.  We also offer classes.  You're basically coming in, you're picking out your background piece.  You're going to lay out all your different... tiles and glass and ceramic little pieces to form your design.  You're going to glue them down, and then we send you home with a grout kit and grouting instructions."

"Wheel throwing is where you're actually using wet clay to go on the pottery wheel, and you're throwing the clay to form your own pot or bowl or mug, some kind of round vessel.  We do that in class form or private lesson.  We do... wheel rentals if you have wheel throwing experience.  Otherwise, we can schedule a one hour private lesson, or we also offer both adult and kids six week wheel sessions."

You don't have to be a professional artist to have some fun.

"You can walk in with no artistic ability or experience and do a project," Nechal said.

They offer something for every age.

"We do have adult classes and kids classes, so we try to cover all age groups," said Nechal.  "Only age restrictions, on Saturday nights we go to adult only hours from 6:00 to 10:00.  So you can come in and bring appetizers and beverages and have a nice ladies' night out or a date night."

If you want to get your creative juices flowing, be sure to check out the Creative Arts Studio in Royal Oak.  For more information, visit  www.creativeartsstudios.com.
