Official says Beavers didn't declare money as loans

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -
An election official has testified at Cook County Commissioner William Beavers' tax-evasion trial, saying the Democrat didn't list money from his campaign as loans on disclosure forms from 2006 to 2008.
The State Board of Elections official took the stand Friday - on the second day of federal prosecutors' case against Beavers.
The defense has said thousands of dollars Beavers spent on gambling and other personal use amounted to loans, so he didn't have to declare it on his returns.
But the official, Andrew Nauman (NOW'-man), told jurors Beavers didn't list any campaign money as loans in 2006, 2007 or 2008. Those are the years he's accused of evading taxes.
The 78-year-old has pleaded not guilty to four tax counts.
The trial is expected to last another week.
