Family safe after fire destroys Peoria home

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, Ariz. -

A family was displaced after flames broke out at a home near Olive and 67th Avenues just after midnight.

Fire officials say crews had to fight the blaze from the outside because the flames were so bad on the inside.

The roof eventually collapsed and the home was declared a total loss.

Luckily, the couple and their young child were able to get out safe.

"Both the residents reported they were awoken by loud noises outside, like what they described as a jet engine....like a 747 outside that woke them up. They found a heavy amount of fire...we have fire investigators on scene, they'll determine the cause of it," said Deputy Chief Rick Picard, with Peoria Fire.

The home next door was also damaged by the flames.

No word on what caused the blaze.
