Arias Trial Delayed Over Defense Expert Witness

PHOENIX (AP) - Jodi Arias' death penalty trial has been delayed over objections to an expert witness defense attorneys plan to call.

Arias is charged with first-degree murder in the June 2008 death of Travis Alexander in his suburban Phoenix home. Authorities say she planned the attack on her lover in a jealous rage. Arias says it was self-defense.

Arias testified over nearly six weeks on the witness stand before concluding her testimony on Wednesday. Trial was set to resume Thursday morning but the judge delayed the start of testimony until the afternoon due to a prosecutor's objections to a defense expert witness.

Attorneys say psychologist Richard Samuels will testify about Arias' memory lapses. Prosecutor Juan Martinez objects, claiming the expert is not a medical doctor and shouldn't be allowed to testify about the brain.
