Blazing fire at vacant warehouse burns out in Coal City

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

A four-alarm fire blazed in a vacant Coal City building early Thursday morning. White smoke from embers and hot spots burned away by 8 a.m. as the flames died out.

More that 100 pieces of emergency equipment were sent to the scene, working for several hours together to extinguish the fire at the old warehouse just three blocks off Route 113.

Firefighters decided to let the fire burn itself out, after the roof collapsed and they were able to contain it. There was no threat to residents.

Early reports said it may be a vacant American Cast Stone building, at 235 E. Oak. FOX 32 was told the warehouse was used to house many businesses throughout its time in Coal City.

No reports of injuries.
