WARREN, Mich. (WJBK) -

Mayor Jim Fouts turned to his favorite crooner, Frank Sinatra, to send one clear message. It's been a very good year in Warren despite what Forbes magazine might think.

"They're dead wrong. Warren is one the rise. Warren is the safest and cleanest city in the area," said Fouts.

The mayor spoke to a packed room of Macomb County leaders during his State of the City address on Wednesday. Fouts said his city has a lot to be proud of.

"We had zero murders last year unlike a lot of other cities, who had various murders. We have an outstanding police commissioner and a police chief. We have a strong fund balance of 38 percent," he explained.

The mayor even said the very public loss of ad agency Campbell Ewald could lead to new investment and development.

"The CFO of Campbell Ewald said Mr. Mayor, I assure you we're going to bring in a blue chip company to Warren," said Fouts. "I hope so."

So why would Forbes magazine call Warren one of the most miserable cities in America? Clearly they don't see what Fouts does.

"Sounds like from what you outlined, Warren could eventually be on the best cities list. Do you think that might happen?" I asked him.

"I think we're on the best cities list right now. I really do," he replied.
