PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) -

A 75-year-old woman charged in the slaying of her teenage grandson is expected to take the stand in her defense, but it's not likely to happen on Tuesday.

Sandra Layne is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Jonathan Hoffman. As of noon, the prosecution was still calling witnesses to the stand making it more likely that they wouldn't rest their case until later this afternoon at the earliest.

Layne's attorney has said she feared for her safety due Hoffman's drug and behavior problems.

Hoffman was shot multiple times May 18, 2012 inside the West Bloomfield Township condo he shared with his grandparents to finish high school as his parents divorced.

Tests showed traces of synthetic marijuana in his body.

Layne's husband Fred testified Friday that Hoffman had "problems" and he had urged her to send him to his parents in Arizona.
