2 dead in I-57 crash near Calumet Park

CALUMET PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two people were killed early Sunday when a vehicle crashed on Interstate 57 near south suburban Calumet Park, authorities said.

The Oldsmobile crashed about 4:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the expressway at 127th Street, authorities said.

The vehicle was traveling in the center lane of the expressway when the driver lost control, according to a statement from the Illinois State Police. The vehicle then rolled over, went airborne and hit the guardrail fence. It then rolled into the center median and hit the concrete bridge support.

The two killed were identified as 24 year-old Tyrone Wright and 22-year-old Brittany Jones, both of Chicago, according to police. They were the only people in the car,

Authorities believe alcohol may be a factor in the wreck, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation Sunday morning. The two left lanes of the expressway were temporarily closed crews investigated.
